Here, break an egg into boiling water.
The yolk blooms a branch of white tendrils.
Remember the steam, open the shutters.
Begin at the husk and work down to the kernel.

The yolk blooms a branch of white tendrils,
so finger the scallops, wet stones in a bowl.
Begin at the husk and work down to the kernel.
Slice open the onions and see them unfold.

Now finger the scallops like stones in a bowl
as round as this room, as open, as full.
Slice open the onions and let them unfold.
Simmer with apples. Rise with the dough.

As round as this room and open and full
of the measures that make us: a spoonful, a cup.
Simmer with apples and rise with the dough.
Chickpea and curry, fennel and nut.

The measures that make us a spoonful, a cup
are the sacred beside us, the dishes prepared:
Chickpea and curry, fennel and nut.
So hold up your palms and take what is shared.

Are the sacred beside us, the dishes prepared?
Remember the steam. Open the shutters.
Hold up your palms. Take what is shared.
Here, break an egg into boiling water.
