College Sub Acute

Students requesting admission for overnight care should be seen by the registered nurses during working hours, 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, at the Health Center. After nursing hours, please contact you RLC.

Because of hospital policy a physicians assessment is needed before a student may be admitted to the SubAcute Care program. During Health Center hours the nurse may make an appointment with a local doctor. If admission is requested after hours the student is evaluated by the emergency room physician.

Admission forms and transportation to and from Grinnell Regional Medical Center will be arranged by the health center during working hours. Contact Resident Life Coordinators for forms and arrangement of transportation after 5pm and on weekends.

The Grinnell Regional Medical Center Sub Acute Care program is a minimal care unit. Grinnell College has contracted with GRMC to provide overnight care for Grinnell Students who are ill, but do not medically require hospitalization. These students will receive 24 hour nursing care and meals as part of their student health fee. All other cost, lab work, visits by physician, physical therapy and prescribed medication, will be billed to the individual student. Over the counter medications and limited dressings are provided by the college health center and are available by student's request while staying in the Sub Acute Care program.
