College student housing is closed for Spring Break.
Residence halls and College-owned houses close at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 15, 2008.
All College housing will reopen at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
Please note that only spring athletes, international students, and students employed by "essential College services" will be allowed to stay in College student housing during this time. No other students will be allowed in College housing during Spring Break. The Athletic Department determines dates of athletes' housing.
Definitions:
- Essential College services are those services necessary for the day to day operation of the College during Spring Break. These services are Campus Security, Mail Services, Catering, the Library, and Admission.
- Students housed over Spring Break, according to this policy, will be known as Spring Break Students (SBS).
Campus housing over Spring Break is a revocable privilege, not a right. Approved students present in the residence halls automatically agree to accept and comply with College rules and regulations.
Spring Break housing is substance-free housing, regardless of residence hall or house and age of student. Students found responsible of alcohol use and/or distribution in the residence hall or houses during break periods will be required to leave campus until classes resume; judicial charges will be pursued.
RLC Coverage:
- Two RLCs are on-call throughout Spring Break.
- On-call RLCs can be reached by contacting Campus Security at ext. 4600.
Meal Preparation:
- SBS may cook in designated kitchens.
- SBS who exercise this privilege agree to clean the kitchen immediately.
- Counters, stoves, and sinks must be clean and clear.
- Any cookware, dishes, or appliances left out and/or dirty will be disposed of daily.
Guests:
SBS may have guests visit them in the residence halls under the following conditions:
- The number of guests is limited to two guests on campus at one time.
- SBS must register their guest(s) at the Security Office upon arrival to campus and check them out when permanently leaving campus. Failure to check guests in with the Security Office or having unauthorized guests on campus will result in a $100 fine per incident.
- Guest(s) cannot be currently enrolled Grinnell College students.
- SBS are responsible for the behavior of their guests.
SBS agree to:
- Keep public spaces clean and orderly throughout the break period.
- Not allow unauthorized students into College housing.
- Keep outside doors to College housing closed and locked (not propped open).
- Excessive cleaning and damage charges will be double the normal rate. Additionally, a minimum fine of $100 fine will be attached to the all excessive cleaning and damage charges. Other charges/fines include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Minimum of $100 fine for unauthorized students present in College housing.
- Minimum of $100 fine for allowing an unauthorized student access/shelter in College housing.
- Minimum of $100 fine per SBS each time a residence hall door is reported/found propped open.
As a Grinnell College student approved to remain on campus during all or part of Spring Break, you must agree to the Policy outlined above by signing a Spring Break Student Housing Policy form. Spring Break Student Housing forms are available from the Student Affairs Office, 3rd floor, JRC.
Students understand staying on campus during Spring Break is a privilege, not a right. Students who do not abide by the Spring Break Housing Policy understand they would (at a minimum) be required to leave campus until classes resume. Other fines or charges may be imposed as a result of failure to abide by this Policy.
