Gregg R. Narber ’68 2000

Gregg R. Narber

Mr. Narber’s interest in political and foreign affairs was evident during his years at Grinnell College, where he participated in men’s government, student council, Young Democrats, and the radio station while earning a B.A. in political science and Latin American studies in 1968. He and his family hosted several foreign students from Europe for one year each under the AFS program. He went on to receive an M.A. in political science and a law degree from Washington University at St. Louis in 1971. He has worked for the Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, where he was Senior Vice President and Counsel, and served a three-year assignment as Chief Operating Officer of BrasilPrev, a Principal Financial Group joint venture in São Paulo, Brazil. He also served as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association; the State of Iowa Human Services Council, responsible for policy and budgets of all state human services activities; the Iowa Attorney General’s Task Force on Alte rnative Dispute Resolution; and the Acquisitions Committee and Board of Trustees of the Des Moines Art Center, serving as President of that board from 1997-99. He has also served on the boards of the Des Moines Symphony and Metro Art Council in Des Moines. During his time in Brazil, he has been involved in researching and writing about rural messianic movements, work recently honored by the Academy of Arts and Letters of the State of Bahia. Gregg has recently completed his Ph.D. in History from the University of Iowa and currently is an Assistant Professor of History at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
