Federal Work-Study positions are available in Community Service jobs throughout the Grinnell area. If you are interested in tutoring in elementary, middle or high schools; assisting in education in applying for one, you can read full job descriptions and learn how to apply by stopping by the Community Service Center located in the CRSSJ (Center for Religion, Spirituality and Social Justice), 1233 Park St. (corner of 8th Ave. and Park St.) A sampling of some positions, include:
Community Support Services” is one of the charitable programs of the Claude W. and Dolly Ahrens Foundation. Currently involved in this program is the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation, which provides fundraising opportunities for community projects and manages each of the financial funds for these organizations and projects, as well as several of their own individual donor funds and granting funds. Through our “Community Support Services” program, the Claude W. and Dolly Ahrens Foundation provides the administrative and financial day to day functions for the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation and all of its organizations and current projects. We offer our services free of charge with a three year support commitment. Through the Federal Work-Study program, we are in need of assistance with the following:
· Applying pledge payments for fundraising donations
· Reconciliations
· Assist w/ month-end closings
· Maintain donor files
· Assist the CFO/Controller with special projects, as needed

Spanish Speaking Volunteers Needed
Local doctors, dentists, clinics and hospital are looking for Spanish-speaking volunteers to assist LEP (Limited English Proficiency) patients. If you have Spanish language skills, enjoy people and medical settings, please contact Linda Romero, LISW at 236-2568.

Dog-Walking Program
Students: Sign up to meet Grinnell dog owners and help them provide exercise and companionship for their pets.
Dog Owners: Sign up to meet Grinnell College students who miss their pets and would be happy to meet and help you provide exercise for your pets.

Job Description: Supervise youth during after school hours and activities-including, but not limited to; leading programming, youth interaction, engaging youth in activities that are deemed appropriate, helping with homework, and managing behavior.
Minimum, Desired, or Special Qualifications: Integrity, must work well in a team atmosphere, as well as independently.
Total number hours per week: 5-10 per student

Job Description: General clerical tasks, such as copying, filing, sorting mail, etc. Data entry for donor lists and general contact information. Cross-referencing donor lists to assure accurate information. Organizing current file systems.

Elementary School Library/Media Center Assistant needed to serve K-2 and 3rd and 4th grade libraries. Federal Work study-qualified students stop by the Community Service Center, 1233 Park Street or contact Deanna Shorb [shorb] or call X4981.

Story-time Readers (student/faculty/staff) are needed at Davis Elementary School. This entails reading a book to a classroom of 3rd and 4th graders once a week (or as infrequently as once each month). There are positions available each Friday beginning at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, and 12:00 noon. Volunteers can sign up for these 20 minute reading opportunities by calling Director of Community Service, Deanna Shorb X4981 [shorb] or stopping by the Center for Religion, Spirituality and Social Justice (CRSSJ), 1233 Park Street.

Homework Help needed for middle schoolers. This is held each weekday Monday - Friday, 3:30 -4:30 pm at Grinnell Middle School on East Street. If you are interested in becoming a homework helper please contact the Director of Community Service, Deanna Shorb X4981 [shorb] or stopping by the Center for Religion, Spirituality and Social Justice (CRSSJ), 1233 Park Street.

Math and Reading tutors are needed in the local elementary schools. If you can donate ½ hour to one hour of your time per week to help a local child in K-4th grade build his or her skills please be in touch, Deanna Shorb [shorb@grinnell.edu].

Mentors are sought for students at Woodbury School, a Spanish speaking elementary school located in Marshalltown, Iowa (1/2 hour drive northwest of Grinnell). As a mentor one would only need to meet with their assigned child about once every week or so for about 30 minutes to talk, play games (basketball, Connect 4, Candyland, etc.), draw, and just generally be a good role model and encourager. Many of the kids do not have positive role models (especially males) in their lives, and rarely get one-on-one attention from anyone.
