Mickey Munley '87

Mickey Munley was named Vice-President for Communication and Events shortly after
the reorganization of what had formerly been the Office of Public Relations and
Special Services and Summer Programs. He had been director of public relations
since December 31, 1998.
A 1987 graduate of Grinnell College, Munley spent seven years working on federal political campaigns.
Most notably, he co-directed Al Gore's first primary win in the 1988 presidential campaign and was the political and finance director for U.S. Senator
Ben Nighthorse Campbell's 1992 campaign. He also worked in Colorado on the campaigns of former Congressman David Skaggs (1988), former U.S. Senator
Tim Wirth (1991), and managed Dick Bond's campaign for Congress (1990).
Munley worked from September 1993 through 1998 as the director of annual giving programs and campaign communications in the Office of Development
and Alumni Relations at Grinnell College.

Kate Worster '87 was named director of communication in 2006 bringing with her nearly 20 years of communication experience.
She began her career in television as a news anchor and reporter at KWQC-TV in Davenport, IA. She then promoted Iowa tourism with the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau before moving to California to open her own public relations and marketing firm.
She has also worked for the Napa Valley Arts Council in Napa, Calif.; the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad, N.M.; the Fayetteville Symphony in Fayetteville, N.C.; and Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, N.C.

Jim Powers joined our staff as a graphic designer in October of 1987. Jim's current responsibilities involve marketing Grinnell in print through collaborations with other members of the Communication and Events staff, administrative offices, and the academic divisions.
Over the years, Jim has been an active member of committees, serving in a publications/marketing capacity to assist the Grinnell Community in celebrating two presidential inaugurations, the rededication of Goodnoow Hall, opening celebrations of the Noyce Science Center and the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts, and Grinnell's 18-month Sesquicentennial. Jim designed the visuals for Grinnell's first two websites, prior to the addition of a full-time webmaster. Other major areas of responsibility for Jim are the art direction of The Grinnell Magazine; working with our two major campus clients admission and alumni relations/development, on recruitment and fund-raising publications respectively; and purchasing printing for the college.
A native Iowan, Jim came to Grinnell after spending nearly a decade in Iowa City, where he earned a B.F.A. in design with minors in life drawing and photography from the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. After finishing his degree, Jim worked as a graphic designer and later as art director for a small downtown Iowa City design firm.
Jackie Hartling Stolze

Jackie Hartling Stolze serves as editor of The Grinnell Magazine and g-mail,
and writes and edits many other college publications. She has been on the staff of the
Office of Communication and Events since 1997.
Jackie has almost 20 years of experience in the field of communication.
She came to Grinnell from a position as marketing director at the Iowa Medical Clinic in
Cedar Rapids. Prior to that, she was editor of the Collectors Journal, a weekly newspaper
published for collectors of antiques and collectibles.
She also served as assistant news director and classical music producer at KTPR-FM
in Fort Dodge, Iowa, an NPR affiliate.
A native Iowan, Jackie earned a B.A. in journalism at the University of Iowa and an M.F.A. from the university's prestigious nonfiction writing program.

Beth Meldrem

Beth Meldrem joined the office in 1990. She currently assists the Vice-President for College and Alumni Relations and takes care of managing the
office budgets.
Before coming to Grinnell College she worked in the billing department at The Mickow
Corporation (TMC) in Des Moines.
Beth resides in nearby Brooklyn with her husband, Troy, and their two children-Tanner,
10, and Spencer, 5. Beth enjoys reading, cooking, and creative stamping and
scrapbooking, as well as spending time with friends and family. She is an active member
in her community serving as a member of the Brooklyn Fire Auxiliary, the Brooklyn
Community Foundation, and is president of the parent-teacher organization at the BGM
Elementary School, Partners in Education.
Beth graduated from the American Institute of Business in 1989 with an AA degree in
Business Administration.
Jo Loftin

Jo was hired in January as Administrative Secretary I.
As one of the newest employees at the Communication and Events office, Jo said, "It’s great to be back in Grinnell." She worked as administrative secretary in computer services from 1982 to 1986.
Jo and her husband recently moved back to Grinnell from Montrose, Colo., where they had an investment business. "We loved Colorado and the mountains but decided we wanted to be around our families."
Jo is maried to Duane Loftin and they have two children Michael David and Kelly Jean. Jo enjoys reading, "doing anything outdoors," and golfing. Jo and Duane are avid golfers and play in mixed league and enter several couples tournaments during the summer.

Shannon joined the Conference Operations staff in August 2005, where she aids in planning summer conferences and events, and handles scheduling for the college's master calendar.
She moved to Grinnell in 2005 with her husband Chad, who works at Grinnell College in Information Technology Services. Prior to moving, she served as the Administrative Assistant at the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce and Area Development Corporation in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Shannon graduated from Wartburg College in 2002 with a BA in Applied Music and Religion and a minor in Communication Arts. She enjoys singing, scrapbooking, photography and many other activities.
