Robert C. Meyer, a 1979 graduate of Grinnell College from Miami, Fla., received an Alumni Award. Following is the citation read about Meyer’s accomplishments: "Lawyers have learned to live with the fact that their profession serves as punch line to more than a few unkind jokes. But this alumnus defies the stereotype. He has consistently and generously served those most in need through his exceptional commitment to pro bono work.

At Grinnell, this alumnus was a history major. His full slate of activities included varsity baseball, KDIC, student government, and the newspaper. After graduation, he earned a J.D. and LL.M. in taxation from the University of Miami.

After working as an attorney in other firms for several years, he started his own private practice focusing on bankruptcy in 1991. He has been recognized as a top lawyer in his field by Super Lawyer magazine. Despite his busy schedule, he has always made time to help those in need. He has provided hundreds of hours of pro bono legal assistance to individuals facing bankruptcy. His efforts have not gone unnoticed. He received the Put Something Back Pro Bono Award from Miami-Dade County Bar Association and the Pro Bono Service Award from the Florida Bar, among many honors.

In addition to the volunteer activities for his profession, he has been a dedicated class fund director for Grinnell for nearly 20 years. He has become an award-winning horticulturist and is director of the Bromeliad Society of South Florida. For his commitment to helping those in need while continuing to build a successful legal practice, Grinnell is pleased to honor Robert C. Meyer ’79."
