SPIRITUALS RECITAL AT GRINNELL COLLEGE
GRINNELL, IA--Soprano Randye Jones and pianist William Tinker will present "The Art of the Negro Spiritual" on Sun., Apr. 6 at 2 p.m. in Herrick Chapel on the Grinnell College campus. The program will feature works by 20th century composers, whose songs reflect the influences of blues, jazz, gospel, and ragtime.
Jones, who is a member of the library staff at Grinnell College, has gained international recognition for her research of African American vocalists and composers and frequently lectures on the Negro spiritual. She has served as a consultant for The Kennedy Center Honors and The Washington Chorus. Tinker, an acclaimed pianist, organist, and harpsichordist, has presented more than 2,000 recitals and radio broadcasts, including National Public Radio and Radio Nederlands.
The recital is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. Herrick Chapel is located at the intersection of Park St. and 7th Ave. on the Grinnell College campus.
