As outlined in the mission statement, "The College exists to provide a lively academic community of students and teachers of
high scholarly qualifications from diverse social and cultural circumstances".
Scholars' Convocation works to directly accomplish the charge laid out in the College's mission statement.
Scholars' Convocation in the existing form was implemented by George Drake '56 during his term as President of the College.
In 2003 the Grinnell College Faculty adopted a new set of guidelines for the Scholars' Convocation program and newly created opportunity
for Thursday Forums.
Scholars' Convocations provide a unique opportunity for students, faculty, staff and community members to be presented with a vast
array of scholarly work. Convocation is included as a benefit to all employees of the College. Attendance may occur during work hours (see Staff Handbook for details).
If you are planning or are interested in planning a Scholars' Convocation, please see the Scholars' Convocation Proposals and Schedule site.
