Several buildings on campus have been salvaged and deconstructed instead of
demolished in the recent past. Trim, windows, restroom fixtures, light switches
and fixtures, and wood floors are some of the items that have been salvaged.
This preserves the past, such as by salvaging 300 old bricks from the Darby
Gymnasium deconstruction in 2004 for alumni; it also reduces the amount of
material going to the landfill-the remainder of the bricks from Darby went to a
local processor to be reused. In addition, several campus houses and part of
the science building were deconstructed only after numerous items were salvaged.
