A Guide to Recycling on Campus

What to Recycle
Recycling in dorms and academic buildings includes cardboard, plastic, newspaper, magazines, office paper, glass, and aluminum.

Electronic waste is recycled through a local recycler, and printer cartridges are given to local elementary schools to use in their fundraising efforts.

Send your used ink cartridges via campus mail to Chris Bair at the Facilities Management building. The cartridges will be divided between two local schools who have asked for the college's help; they turn the cartridges in to be recycled and in return get cash for each cartridge!

Guide to Recycling on Campus
1. Reuse the item if you can.
2. Recycle responsibly--use the right bin. Read the posters on and/or above the bins. Recycling rooms are located on the first floor of every dorm and throughout other buildings on campus.
3. Make sure the materials are clean.
4. Do not place trash in the recycling bins.
5. Do not place these items in the recycling bins:

-Cellophane
-Plastic packaging - (examples: toilet tissue, paper towels, disposable diapers packaging, etc.)
-Plastic Bags -even though they may be marked with a recycling #2, they are not accepted in our program at this time.
-Styrofoam, Styrofoam packing peanuts - any Styrofoam even with a number on it is not recyclable in our program.
-Hard cover books - the covers need to be removed
-Light Bulbs, Plate Glass (windows), and Household Glassware - these items should be disposed of in the regular trash.
-Wax Coated Drinking Cups, Milk or Juice Containers - these items are to be disposed of in the regular trash bin.
-Broken Glass - should not be placed in the recycling bin, it should be disposed of with your regular trash.
-Used Personal Hygiene Products - some of these types of items have been showing up in recycling bins such as: Toilet Tissue, Kleenex, Paper Towels, Disposable Diapers, and Feminine Hygiene Products. These items are not at all recyclable and can cause health concerns for our employees!
-Typewriters and Fax Machines Campus members with non-working typewriters and fax machines should contact Dave Dale at ext. 4901 for removal. If the equipment works, contact Vicki Wade at ext. 3044.
