East Campus receives LEED certification

On August 2, the East Campus residence halls — East, Rose, Kershaw, and Lazier — received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.

LEED certification recognizes high performance green buildings, with standards for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

"Green" elements of the halls include regionally harvested and manufactured materials, water conservation, the purchase of green power, and enhanced heating and cooling systems.

East Campus is the second College project to be LEED certified. In May 2006, the Environmental Education Center at the Conard Environmental Research Area (CERA) received a LEED gold rating — the first building in Iowa to do so.

The College has applied for LEED certification for two additional construction projects: the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center and the Robert N. Noyce '49 Science Center.
