A consequence of the opening of the Rosenfield Campus Center is the closing of Cowles and Quad dining halls. At present, Quad will remain a venue for special dining events. Cowles Dining is being retrofitted to provide housing for about 48 students. West of the main entrance will be dorm-style housing plus a lounge. East of the main entrance will be apartment-style housing. The living rooms of the apartments will be double-height. Upstairs are bedroom lofts with a hallway looking over the living space. Two of the apartments have first floor bedrooms and handicap accessible kitchens and bathrooms.

The retrofit design was initiated by the Des Moines architectural firm of Herbert Lewis Kruse & Blunk , and completed by Neumann Design Build.
