St. Norbert College shot out to a 40-19 halftime lead on its way to a 79-34 women's basketball victory over Grinnell College Saturday in De Pere, Wis.
With the win, the Midwest Conference leaders improved to 12-1 in the league and 16-4 overall. Grinnell dipped to 5-7 in the MWC and 7-12 in all games.
Hannah Wolf '08 and Mallory Scharf '11 each had nine points for Grinnell. Scharf also had three assists and five rebounds. Morgan Strasser had 18 points to lead the hosts.
Grinnell led twice in the game, the first time at 3-2 on a 3-pointer by Laura Burton '08 and again at 6-4 on a trey by Jessica Shotts '10. But from there St. Norbert rattled off 21 consecutive points for a 25-6 lead at the 9:25 mark. The Pioneers couldn't make a dent in the lead after that.
The Pioneers have a week off before taking on Lake Forest on the latter's court next Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
