One day after scoring 38 points, Grinnell College's Hannah Wolf '08 poured in 39 in a 90-80 Midwest Conference basketball loss Saturday afternoon at Beloit College.

Wolf (pictured) hit a half-dozen 3-pointers for the second day in a row and was 15-of-28 overall from the field. Her point total is seventh-best for a single game in Pioneer history. Mallory Scharf '11 added 17 points for Grinnell and Jodi Watkins '09 tallied 15. Wolf, Brianna Gallo '11 and Watkins each had four assists and Scharf grabbed seven rebounds.

Christine Brown and Mary Parker each had 25 points for Beloit, which improved to 5-2 in the MWC and 8-5 overall. Grinnell dipped to 1-5 in the league and 3-10 in all contests.

Grinnell dominated much of the first half, building its lead as big as eight points when a 3-pointer by Wolf made it 34-26 with 2:34 left. But the hosts finished the stanza with a flurry, going on a 9-0 run for a 35-34 halftime lead.

Beloit went up by as many as 16 points in the second half, when Amanda Moore's basket made it 60-44. Grinnell gradually crept back, though, and eventually came within three points at 80-77 on a 3-pointer by Watkins with 1:04 remaining. However, Beloit countered with a 6-0 run to put the victory away.

The Pioneers now return for a pair of home games. Ripon College visits Darby Gymnasium at 5 p.m. this Friday and Lawrence is at Grinnell Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
