Pioneers Improve to 14-5 on the Season

The Grinnell College men's tennis team picked up its 14th win of the season with a commanding 9-0 victory over Ripon on Friday afternoon.

Nate Fox '09 and DJ Warden '08 teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-5, while Sam Raife '10 and Eric Ohrn '07 won the No. 2 match, 8-3. Eli Best '07 and Jordan Lee '08 finished off the sweep, winning 8-1.

The Pioneers then won four of the six singles matches in straight sets. After dropping the first set 4-6, Warden fought back to win the No. 3 match, 4-6, 6-4, (10-2). Ohrn then finished off his match in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.

Grinnell now stands at 14-5 overall and will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Rochester, Minn., to face Luther in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
