Pioneers Wrap Up Home Schedule with Win Over Central
The Grinnell College men's tennis team got in its final tune-up before this weekend's conference finales by cruising to an 8-1 victory over Central College (12-7) on Tuesday afternoon. The match was also the home finale for the Pioneers this season.
Nate Fox '09 and DJ Warden '08 teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match 8-5, while Eli Best '07 and Jordan Lee '08 cruised to an 8-3 victory in their No. 3 match. The only loss by the Pioneers on the afternoon was a tough 9-8 setback in the No. 2 doubles match with Eric Ohrn '07 and Sam Raife '10.
Dan LaFountaine '09 returned to the line-up and cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jared Feddersen, while Fox (No.2), Best (No. 3), and Ohrn (No.4) picked up wins in their respective matches. Joe Jankolovits '07 and Paul Brown '07 finished things off for Grinnell with straight set victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively.
Grinnell improves to 15-6 overall and will return to action on Saturday when they wrap up conference play with a 9:00 a.m. match-up with Knox, followed by a 1:00 p.m. contest with Monmouth.
