Pioneers Place Sixth at Scot-Fire Invite
The Grinnell College men's golf team opened its regular season over the weekend by taking part in the two-day Scot-Fire Invite. The Pioneers shot a 688 and placed sixth. Pete Kieselbach '10 finished with a 165, individually, to finish in 19th.
Kieselbach fired an opening-round 80 on Friday which tied for the fourth-best round of the day. After an 85 on Saturday the first-year capped off a strong performance in his first collegiate competition. Michael Inman '09 shot rounds of 86 and 87 to finish in a tie for 26th, while Carlos Lu '10 brought home a 33rd-place finish with rounds of 92 and 85. R.J. Roewe '09 was right behind in a tie for 34th following an opening round 88 and a final round of 90. Trek Langenhan '07 bounced back from his opening round 101 to fire an 85 on Saturday and finish in 41st.
Monmouth shot a 632 to finish four strokes ahead of Iowa Wesleyan for the team title. Iowa Wesleyan, however, did land the individual champion as Jordan Crampton shot an opening round of 78 on Friday before following it up with a 69 on Saturday to clinch the title.
Grinnell returns to action this weekend when they travel to Storm Lake, Iowa, to compete in the Buena Vista Invitational. Tee-times for Friday are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
