For the second year in a row, Grinnell College men's basketball player David Arseneault '09 is listed among the nation's best point guards.
The 6-foot-2 Arseneault, who led the nation in assists the last two years, is one of 40 preseason candidates for the prestigious Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award, which is presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame and The Hartford. Arseneault was one of 17 finalists for the award last season. In 2006-2007, Arseneault dished out 203 assists to break his previous school mark of 198. He now has 401 career assists and is just 58 shy of tying the school record of 459. Arseneault, who guided the Pioneers to the Midwest Conference title last season and 17-7 overall mark, finished fourth in the league in scoring with 18.7 points per game.
Finalists for the Bob Cousy Award are selected by a blue ribbon panel of basketball experts, which includes the likes of Jim Calhoun, Dean Smith, Kelvin Sampson, Mark Few, Bob Cousy, Dick Vitale, Gene Keady, Clark Kellogg, Gary Williams and Mitchell Light. The eventual winner will be announced during The Final Four in conjunction with the Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2008. For more information, visit www.cousyaward.com.
