Coming off a record-breaking performance, Grinnell College's David Arseneault '09 has been named the Midwest Conference Men's Basketball Performer of the Week.
The 6-foot-2 guard, a Grinnell native, snapped the NCAA record for single-game assists regardless of division when he dished out 34 in a 151-112 victory over North Central University of Minnesota on Saturday. That tops the previous NCAA Division III best of 26 by Kean's Robert James in 1989, and also bests the NCAA Division I and II marks of 22 and 25, respectively. Arseneault also had 22 points and six rebounds in the win.
In a 100-80 victory over Monmouth College on Wednesday, Arseneault had 11 points, seven assists and three boards. He has led all of NCAA Division III in assists the past two years and is currently averaging 13 a game.
