Unsell, Mendoza named to All-MWC squad
Mendoza lands a spot on the Second Team for the second straight year. The Gallup, N.M., native started all 25 games he appeared in for the Pioneers this season. Before missing the final two weeks due to injury, the sophomore finished fifth on the team with a .309 average, including five doubles and 16 RBI. In 97 official at-bats on the year, he struck out just five times and recorded at least one hit in all but three games he appeared in. He was also a defensive leader at shortstop, recording a .908 fielding percentage, while throwing out 98 runners (fourth best in the MWC) over the course of the season. He turned in his best individual performance in the season opener, going 2-for-5 at the plate, including a double, three RBI and a pair of runs scored.
