A classmate serving in the role of Asa Turner Chair represents each class beginning with
their 34th reunion year. The primary purpose of the Asa Turner Associates is to enhance the
visibility of the planned giving program. The associate may have many opportunities to
interact with classmates on behalf of the college, but the main obligation is to send an
annual mailing to their class emphasizing an aspect of planned gifts available at Grinnell.
The mailing is initiated and implemented by the planned giving staff on topics ranging
from bequests to gifts with retained life income.
The Asa Turner Chair enhances the visibility of the Grinnell College planned giving program, which raises funds for the College through bequests and gifts with retained income. For class prior to 1973, the ATC writes classmates to explain planned giving opportunities at Grinnell and/or some aspect of planned giving. As part of the class committee, the ATC attends VOlunteer Weekend and takes a leading role in planning and promoting reunion activities for his or her class.
The Asa Turner Chair is invited to attend a volunteer conference on campus for training
and interaction with other class volunteers. The associate also represents their class along
with other class volunteers in planning reunion activities and other special class events.
