  • Alumni Lecture: Robert Hodierne '68 (285MB, .mov format). Hodierne discusses "Lessons Unlearned," comparing the Vietnam conflict with the current situation in Iraq.
  • Alumni College: Jim Kissane '52, professor emeritus of English (54MB, .mp3 format). Kissane presents "Poetry: Who’s Talking and Who’s Listening?" Poetry seems to emphasize both “sincerity” and “simulation.” One of its many pleasures is concentrated, often bold, self-expression; but another is its crafty way of exhibiting fictive characters in invented situations. This lecture will consider these contrasting aspects (with examples) and on that basis will venture a comparison of the art of poetry with the (imperiled) art of civilized conversation.
