Grinnell College's policy is to admit academically and otherwise qualified students regardless of family income. Grinnell students are admitted on their ability to prosper intellectually at the College, not their ability to pay (this policy is known as "Need Blind Admission" and it is increasingly rare among independent colleges and universities). Admitted students with demonstrated financial need receive generous aid packages usually including grant (gift) assistance, long-term-low-interest loans, and campus employment. Currently, about 90 percent of Grinnell students receive financial aid.
The 2007-08 comprehensive fee for new students is $42,422 (tuition & fees, $34,392; room and board, $8,030). When determining eligibility for assistance, allowances are made for the following expenses:
Books & Supplies $750
Personal Expenses $600
Travel Expenses $200-1,700 depending upon home state/country.

In addition, the College has set plans to reduce student debt, beginning in the 2008-09 academic year. More details on this important new policy are available on our News Page.
