Summer 2005 Peace Studies Internships
Intern: Alison Oldham '06
Internship: Center for Victims of Torture/New Tactics in Human Rights Project
717 East River Road
Minneapolis, MN 55455
Summary Description:
My internship at the New Tactics in Human Rights Project allowed me to expand my skills in several important areas. I improved my ability to work on my own, manage my own time, to work with those in office settings, to research and write, to create classroom activities, and to write grants. I expanded my knowledge of both human rights abuses across the world and also my knowledge of steps being taken by activists. Most importantly, I gained the ability to look at the world and problems that arise in it with a strategic and tactical eye.

Intern:Nissa Mattson '07
Internship: Nonviolent Peace Force
425 Oak Grove
Minneapolis MN 55403
Summary Description:
This summer I interned with the Nonviolent Peaceforce, an international NGO that trains civilians in methods of nonviolent conflict resolution, then deploys trainees to conflict ridden areas of the world. During my internship I wrote a 20-page research paper on the role of youth in the conflict in Northern Ireland, interviewed numerous individuals involved with the peace movement, raised funds for the Peaceforce's youth program, and attended a conference on Our Natural and Political World. I learned about everything from international peacekeeping to fundraising.
