Assistant Professor

Edward Cohn came to Grinnell in 2007 after completing a Ph.D. in Russian history at the University of Chicago. A 1999 graduate of Swarthmore College, he specializes in the social and political history of the USSR under Stalin and Khrushchev; his dissertation focuses on the Communist party’s investigation of misconduct allegations against its members after World War II, for offenses ranging from drunkenness and corruption to adultery and war-time collaboration with the Nazis. In his free time, Professor Cohn enjoys movies, nature photography, and travel, and he spent more time than he cares to admit playing intercollegiate quizbowl as an undergrad and a graduate student.
