Kent McClelland Kent McClelland has taught sociology at Grinnell College since 1982 and has been a professor in the Grinnell-in-London program three previous times, in 1988, 2002, and 2005. With an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and a Ph.D. from Harvard University, he first visited London as a student in 1972 and since then has traveled extensively in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. He served as faculty sponsor for a Grinnell College eight-week off-campus internship program in Somerset County in Southwestern England in the summer of 1995. In 2002, he helped to plan and organize the first semester of Grinnell-in-London internships, and then served as a faculty sponsor for the London internships that semester and again in 2005. McClelland's research and teaching interests have ranged widely, from social inequality and social welfare systems to sociology of the life course, racial and sexual harassment, peace and conflict studies, and sociological theory and methods. He has also taken part in several team-taught interdisciplinary courses at Grinnell, including courses on biotechnology and public policy, the control of reproduction, and environmental challenges and responses. He is the author of scholarly articles and book chapters on a variety of topics and is the editor of a recent book, Control Systems Theories in Sociology.
