  Grinnell College

Grinnell-in-London does cost more than attending Grinnell College in Iowa. Please see the Financial Aid web page devoted to Off-Campus Study for estimated costs for this program. Financial aid, fellowships, and subsidies may help defray this additional cost- please read the specifics below.

Fellowships

Harold and Tosh Lee

Three fellowships of $3,000 each are awarded annually to Grinnell College students accepted into the Grinnell-in-London program. The first Harold and Antonia Garst '54 Lee Fellowships were awarded in Fall 1993. The Roswell and Elizabeth Garst Foundation established the fellowship to honor Harold Lee, a former professor and director of the London program, and Antonia Garst '54 Lee who taught English for many years at the American School in London. The Board awards the fellowship based on student rationale for participating in the program, fellowship application, academic record, faculty recommendations, and financial need. Only students with very high or high financial need are eligible for this fellowship. The Grinnell-in-London application contains a one page application for this fellowship. Financial Aid

Students approved for participation in GIL who wish to receive aid must go through the same financial aid process as students intending to remain on campus. All financial aid deadlines and requirements still apply. Awards for the fall semester are generally mailed in June. Grinnell students who have very high or high level of need are encouraged to apply for the Harold & Antonia Garst '54 Lee Fellowships described above.

Certain conditions apply to GIL that may affect your award:

- Trustee Honor Scholarships and Grinnell Foreign Grants can be used for GIL but cannot be adjusted upwards to reflect increased costs.

- Tuition-remission benefits do apply to the Grinnell-in-London program.

- Work-study eligibility may be replaced by loans.

- Aid will not under any circumstances exceed the cost of attendance.

If you have questions about your own personal financial aid situation, please contact Gretchen Zimmermann, Associate Director of Financial Aid.

Subsidies

Grinnell College pays for several course-related expenses (e.g. partial board on field trips and admission fees), as well as 100% transportation subsidies for course related field trips, and provides free theater tickets for four to eight plays.
