Professor Verkijika Fanso, University of Yaounde ~ Fall 2004
Professor Fanso visited Grinnell from the University of Yaounde, Cameroon, where he
is a Professor of History. Professor Fanso taught a three-week short course, "Central
African History" and presented one public lecture, "The Minority Problem in Cameroon:
The Case of Anglophones."
Professor Michiko Nakahara, Waseda University ~ Fall 2004
Professor Nakahara visited Grinnell from Tokyo, Japan where she most recently held
the position of Professor of Asian History, Center for International Education, Waseda
University. Professor Nakahara taught a four-week short course, "Women and the
Emperor in Modern Japan" and presented one public lecture, "My Memory. My Story."
Professor Ping-chen Hsiung, Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University ~ Spring 2005
Ping-chen Hsiung, currently an Adjunct Professor of History at Fu Jeng Catholoc University in Taipai, Taiwan, and a
Research Fellow at the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, also in Taipai. Professor Hsiung has an M.A. and a Ph.D.
in History from Brown University, and has also studied at the Harvard University School of Public Health as well as the National
Taiwan University. She ahs been a visiting faculty member or scholar at various intitutions, including the Freie Universitat in Berlin,
Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociale in Paris, Keio University in Tokyo, Princeton University, University of Southern
California, Los Angeles, University of Michigan, Harvard Medical School, and the University of Chicago. She is the author or editor
of numerous publications, including the following books (in Chinese): Reflections on Childhood in the Past - A History of
Chinese Children (2000), Neo-Confucian Orthodoxy and Human Desire: Post/Modernity in Pre-Modern Chinese Cultural
Developments (editor; 1999), In Peace or Discomfort: Diseases and Health of Young Children in Late Imperial China (1999).
