We are pleased to announce that the College has appropriated funding for a faculty development seminar for 2006-07. In terms of theme, we are planning a seminar that takes a comparative approach to genocide studies, with examination of the unfortunately numerous twentieth-century cases, such as Armenia, Rwanda, East Timor, Cambodia, Bosnia, and the tragic events taking place today in Sudan, with a possibe focus on the particular context of the Holocaust.
Our faculty planning committee will build on work done during the Summer 2005 and 2006 workshops on genocide and Holocaust studies, and will meet regularly in Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 to determine the final format of the seminar, which could take a number of different forms. Our tentative plan is to build on connections in Poland and Germany, and base the travel portion of the seminar in Warsaw and Berlin.
