Partnership with Nanjing University (China)

 
 

Since 1987, Grinnell College has had an institutional partnership with Nanjing University, one of China's key comprehensive universities. Through this partnership, Grinnell receives two research scholars from Nanjing University each year, along with a visiting instructor of Chinese, and in return Grinnell sends two of its faculty or staff each year to teach students in Nanjing. Over the past twenty years, a wide academic collaboration has been carried out between the two institutions, with cooperative fields including English language and literature, political science, Chinese history, economics, Russian literature, chemistry, computer science, sociology, and ecology, among other fields.

How to Apply to teach in Nanjing
Grinnell faculty and staff who are interested in teaching in Nanjing should submit a letter of interest to the Director of the Center for International Studies by October 1st . The letter should include a description of the proposed course, a rationale of how the course will contribute to Chinese understanding of the discipline, a proposed department in which the course might be housed, and background information about the instructor's sensitivity to cultural differences. The application will be reviewed by a committee consisting of the Director, a member of the Chinese and Japanese Department, and two faculty who have previously taught in Nanjing.
