about the center

A liberal arts education is incomplete if it does not take into account the global dimension of knowledge and its use. The Center for International Studies exists to strengthen this global awareness in all members of the College community. Founded in 2000, the Center has seven core areas of activity:

  • subsidizing courses and course units that bring an international focus to an existing academic discipline.
  • sponsoring speakers and other on-campus events that address international issues
  • facilitating international travel for students and faculty to acquire and disseminate knowledge, such as through off-campus study
  • administering Grinnell College's partnership with Nanjing University in China
  • maintaining a faculty database of international experience and international interests
  • providing leadership in establishing goals and assessing outcomes of international education at Grinnell College
  • collaborating with other campus offices and organizations that promote international education, such as International Student Services, International Student Admissions, the Faulconer Gallery, the Rosenfield Program, the Center for the Humanities, the Center for Prairie Studies, and the Office of Interdisciplinary Studies.

LOCATION
The Center is located on the first floor of Macy House, an historic building located at 1205 Park Street (corner of Park Street and Seventh Avenue). The Center offices include those of the Director of the Center, the Director of Off-Campus Study, the Assistant Director of Off-Campus Study, and the Program Associate for the Center and for Off-Campus Study.
