Designed for those self-motivated and self-disciplined students who want to prepare for off-campus study, and would like to enrich their major and liberal arts education.

ALSO students use standard texts and accompanying multimedia programs, and are expected to set up and adhere to a schedule of intensive daily study. Individual practice with multimedia is supplemented by three live practice sessions per week, conducted by a native speaker of the language. Native tutors, trained and monitored by the program's director, lead students in interactive exercises, correct them, and help the development of oral-aural skills.

Past language offerings include Arabic, Czech, Hebrew, Japanese, Modern Greek, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, and Kiswahili.
